For using the new upload capability within Rio, this article explains the steps to successful data ingestion.
Below will proceed through the steps needed to upload data into Rio using the Intelligent uploader.
Step 1. Choose your data
For any upload type, upon clicking upload on a utility, you'll be presented with this initial upload screen.
The uploader allows the below file types to upload:
- Comma-separated value file (.csv)
- Tab-separated value file (.tsv)
- Excel 2003 and previous (.xls)
- Excel 2007 onwards (.xlsx)
Alternatively you can download a template for uploading new data into Rio.
Step 2. Select your header row
By default, the uploader has pre-selected what it believes your header row to be so this stage should simply require confirming the selection.
However you also have the opportunity to select a different row or, choose that there aren't column names.
Step 3. Auto-mapping of columns
The uploader using GPT integration along rule-based algorithms automatically assigns spreadsheet column names to Rio's internal schema.
Minor corrections such as spelling or word mismatching is catered for using the new uploader.
Where the uploader has matched your columns, you'll be presented with a green tick.
If the uploader has used its GPT integration, the match will indicate that it's been AI-suggested as below.
Step 4. Clean Data
On this step, the Intelligent uploader maps your row data to existing data within Rio, such as:
- Locations
- Meters
- Suppliers
It also auto-corrects any entries using rule-based algorithms alongside GPT integration to automate validation that usually requires manual intervention
Step 5. Review and upload
This final step allows for inline-editing of your data to make minor adjustments ahead of uploading. The uploader highlights errors for review.
In addition, there are now export options available to download the errors with accompanying text if you wanted to fix your changes outside of Rio.

- Drag and replace
- Find and replace
- Copy / paste
Once complete your data will be uploaded into Rio for your chosen utility/upload type.
